Achievements

Since joining the council, I've tackled every challenge head-on. At the last election, I campaigned on specific priorities and now I'm eager to show you what I've achieved rather than just talking about it.

Additionally, I've maintained a record of my activities on Facebook and Instagram since starting on council in 2021. These platforms highlight my personal contributions rather than mere photo opportunities or taking credit for council-wide efforts. Check them out in the top left corner of this page.

Increased transparency and accountability
•    Information on breakdown of council expenditure included on rates notices after my notice of motion (6/12/22)
•    A more transparent small donations program that spent more money after my notice of motion (20/9/22)
•    A new council policy that councillors vote on items potentially controversial to the community from my notice of motion (3/10/23). This resulted in a vote on the Kathmandu Lane project which demonstrated more accountability than the Golden balls and the Bee clock projects which occurred without a vote.
•    I successfully put forward a motion for increased financial statistics to be provided to councillors (17/10/23)
•    I obtained more public information about financial and physical progress on the stadium and Conservatorium projects (19/3/24)
•    I voted against councillors awarding themselves superannuation (which I then refused to accept), and voted against councillor pay rises every year not just in the election year!

Roads & footpaths and Accessibility
•    Council purchased temporary ramps for wheelchairs, prams et cetera to gain access to grass islands at Cook and Robinson Park for community events from my notice of motion (23/6/22).
•    Initiation of partnership with ‘Sports for all’ to employ at low cost someone to facilitate those with a disability accessing mainstream sport from my notice of motion (19/3/23).
•    I voted to increase funding for roads and footpath maintenance.
•    I have a project underway for temporary ramps for businesses in Orange

Water security
•    I am proactive in obtaining information on water infrastructure priorities which I have lobbied to state and federal MPs about.
•    I regularly seek updates about the Blackman’s swamp storm water harvesting project.

Winter access to Mount Canobolas
•    This proposal would be best included as part of a recreation plan for Mount Canobolas as documented in my priorities.

Despite being 1 of 12 councillors, I submitted 22 of the 90 notices of Motions debated in council. Other motions that I put forward included having Wi-Fi in the CBD, a proposal for fishing in town dams, creating a process where the community can nominate names for new roads, reducing the impact of logging on mountain bike tracks, moving forward athletic track construction timings  and many others. I chaired 4 of the 26 community committees (health liaison, ageing and access, museum and cycling) and were involved in others as well as community groups such as the ‘push for palliative’ hospice proposal.

In addition to my particular concerns this council collectively achieved a great deal. Some standouts include the Lake Canobolas works, numerous affordable housing approvals, gallery extension, the sports stadium progression, Storco factory, the adventure playground renewal, UGL office, the Conservatorium development, the Southern feeder Road construction, Spring Creek dam pipeline, a winter indoor playground at the tennis court centre, increased spending on footpaths, a new Christmas tree, splash park, airport LED lights, shade sails and many others. I was just 1 councillor amongst 12 and there are 520 staff who contributed to this. Still I feel that I helped the process of Council happen in a small way and I was involved with both council successes and failures over the past 3 years.
